New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has often had the chance to defend their star pitcher, Devin Williams. Now, the Yankees are left in a tough spot, as Williams has been struggling a lot. However, Boone remains firm as he maintains that he’s getting better, saying he’s close to getting better.
Aaron Boone reacts and defends Devin Williams
On Tuesday as well, while playing against San Diego Padres in The Bronx, Devin Williams wasn’t able to perform well. With manager Aaron Boone, claiming yet again that Williams can turn things around. Boone said:
“I still maintain, like, this is not a pitcher we’re trying to reinvent or a guy that’s past his prime, this is still an elite [pitcher], and all the stuff there is saying that. … I do feel like it’s very close. It’s just about controlling counts a little bit better, and once he does, he’ll ascend real quick.”When Aaron Boone was asked whether or not Williams had to struggle on Monday to reset the clock for when he could return to the closer spot, Boone said he didn’t think so.
While Devin Williams didn’t give up big hits or home runs on Monday, he still struggled with control. The issue is tough for the Yankees. After being removed as the closer, Williams had three great games with no hits or runs. Aroone Boone reacted saying:
“I feel like the last few, it’s been good, And again, I don’t feel like it’s a situation where he’s all over the place. It’s just missing a little out of the zone with his fastball.”Veteran pitcher Carlos Carrasco to be removed by Yankees
With the game and team moving ahead in the middle of a heated baseball season, the New York Yankees have decided to move on from pitcher Carlos Carrasco after he struggled in his first eight games, with a high 5.91 ERA. The team had already skipped his turn in the rotation.
Now, the Yankees have decided on a new starter soon. Ryan Yarbrough has pitched well but isn’t ready to start full games. Meanwhile, Allan Winans is doing great in the minor league and might be a good option to join the team.
