Veteran filmmaker
Bharathiraja recently suffered an unimaginable loss with the passing of his only son,
Manoj Bharathiraja (48). The Tamil film industry was deeply shaken by this tragic news, especially as it came on the same day that actor and karate trainer
Shihan Hussaini succumbed to blood cancer. The back-to-back losses cast a shadow of grief over the entire industry, leaving fans and colleagues heartbroken. Many prominent film personalities, including Vijay, Suriya, Karthi, and Yogi Babu, visited Bharathiraja to express their condolences and offer their support during this difficult time.
Gangai Amaran stands by his grieving friend.
Among those who extended their comfort was filmmaker and composer Gangai Amaran, a longtime friend and collaborator of Bharathiraja. He recently visited the grieving director at his residence to console him. The emotional meeting was a moment of deep sorrow as Bharathiraja, visibly devastated, struggled to come to terms with the loss of his son. Gangai Amaran’s presence was an attempt to bring some solace to his friend, who has been receiving overwhelming support from the film fraternity.
A song to rekindle old memories
In an effort to lighten Bharathiraja’s heavy heart, Gangai Amaran sang 'Siru Ponmani Asaiyum,' a song he had written for the director’s 1980 classic 'Kallukkul Eeram.' As he hummed the tune, he took Bharathiraja down memory lane, recalling how the song had come to life. He reminisced about the moment when Bharathiraja had asked him to write the lyrics within ten minutes while they were at Palm Grove Hotel and how, upon completion, Bharathiraja had praised his work.
A friendship that stands the test of time
Through this heartfelt gesture, Gangai Amaran not only comforted Bharathiraja but also reminded him of the artistic legacy they built together. His words and presence were a testament to the deep bond they shared, offering a moment of warmth amidst the sorrow.
