When Sanjay Dutt followed Madhuri Dixit everywhere, whispering 'I love you', said a director in the 'Khalnayak' actor's biography

It's Sanjay Dutt's birthday today and the actor has remained remained quite popular ever since he started his career, for his swag and persona. Known for a number of movies like 'Khalnayak', 'Vaastav', the 'Munnabhai' franchise among others, Dutt has also been under the limelight for his rumoured relationships. But the one which people still cannot get over his Dutt's rumoured affair with Madhuri Dixit.
Neither of the two have admitted to this, however, the way they spoke about each other in interviews and the way, the industry also spoke about them, gave major hints. Yasser Usman who has written biographies of actors like Rajesh Khanna and Rekha, also wrote a biography on Sanjay Dutt. It was titled 'Sanjay Dutt: The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood’s Bad Boy’. In this book, a director (unnamed) who was working with them, had said, "He was always following Madhuri around and whispering I love you."
Madhuri Dixit had said in an interview that Sanjay Dutt is the only guy who makes her laugh all the time. She had added, "My favourite partner is Sanjay Dutt, he’s a real joker… and his stories make me laugh all the time, but he is also a gentleman. Sanju is a fantastic person. He has a loving heart and, in contrast to the widely held view, a good sense of humour. He is the only guy who makes me laugh all the time. He does not play games. He is open and uncomplicated."
Sanjay had denied these rumours once and said, "I wish I had a scene going on with Madhuri. But I don’t. Look I get friendly to every co-star of mine. If you see me with Raveena Tandon, you will feel I am having an affair with her too." The actor added that when these rumours started, Madhuri was not in India as she was shooting for a film titled 'Khel' abroad. Dutt said that he apologised to Madhuri for these rumours as she was under public scrutiny for no fault of hers.
Even with these rumours at that point, Subhash Ghai had once said that Sanjay would not marry Madhuri as he doesn't want his wife to work in movies post marriage.
According to the industry insiders and magazines of that time, Sanjay and Madhuri were in a relationship but had broken up when in 1993, Sanjay got arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) for illegal possession of arms during the Mumbai serial blasts. According to the Stardust Magazine, Madhuri had refused to take his calls after that.
Recently, Sanjay and Madhuri were seen re-uniting for Subhash Ghai's anniversary party. The duo were seen posing in a picture together which also saw Ghai, Madhuri's husband Dr Sriram Nene and Jackie Shroff. Fans were delighted to see it and demanded the re-union of 'Sanjay-Madhuri' on the big screen! The duo had shared screen space together in 'Kalank'.
