Juan Soto helped the Yankees reach the World Series in 2024. But after just one year, he left the team. Even though the Yankees wanted to keep him, Soto joined the New York Mets with a huge contract. Now, he’s back in the Bronx, but as a visitor. Yankees fans booed him during the first game of the Subway Series. Some people, like MLB expert David Samson, believe Soto only cares about money, not loyalty.
David Samson declares Juan Soto elected Mets only because of money
MLB commentator David Samson posted firm views regarding Juan Soto. On his podcast, Samson stated that Soto never liked the Yankees and didn't mind leaving. He reported that Soto presented a list of requirements to the Yankees and Mets. Mets proprietor Steve Cohen accepted them all, so Soto departed.
Samson indicated Soto never had close relationships with teammates. He wasn't popular in the Yankees clubhouse.
"No love lost when he left the Padres, when he leaves the Yankees when he leaves the Nationals," Samson said. He even labeled Soto as selfish and indicated the slugger wished to be treated differently than everyone else.
Although Soto is an amazing hitter, Samson stated that leaders need to care about more than themselves. He feels that the Mets didn't get much better with Soto, and the Yankees didn't collapse without him.
Aaron Judge leads Yankees as Juan Soto struggles in return
The Yankees defeated the Mets 6-2 on Friday evening in the first game of the Subway Series this year. Juan Soto didn't hit at all but walked three times, stole one base, and scored once. Nevertheless, he was booed mercilessly each time he stepped into the batter's box.
Samson told fans to boo all they like, but to feel good. The Yankees lead their division with a 25-18 record. Captain Aaron Judge is playing phenomenally. Samson went so far as to label him the best player in the world other than Shohei Ohtani.
The Mets are also at the top, just before the Phillies. But Samson contends Soto didn't immediately make them champions. He thinks both teams are doing well and even better now that the Yankees don't have Soto.
