The
Golden State Warriors are eyeing a potential trade for one of the most well-known young talents in the NBA,
Bennedict Mathurin, from the Indiana Pacers. After a thrilling 116-109 victory over the
Oklahoma City Thunder, the Warriors are looking to bolster their roster to make a playoff push. With key players like Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga sidelined due to injury, adding Mathurin could provide the much-needed support for Stephen Curry, especially in the quest for a second scoring option.
Bennedict Mathurin, the 22-year-old guard, has been making waves in his third season, averaging 16.4 points and 5.9 rebounds. He has proven his scoring ability, shooting a solid 58.2% true shooting percentage this season. His defense has also improved significantly, with a career-best 117 defensive rating per 100 possessions. His offensive skills, combined with a stronger defensive presence, make him a perfect fit for a Golden State Warriors team that could use additional scoring power, especially with Curry continuing to carry the load on offense.

"Indiana guard Bennedict Mathurin is being monitored by nearly every team seen as a buyer at the deadline," reports Los Angeles Times' Dan Woike. The Golden State Warriors are reportedly among the interested suitors, eyeing Mathurin as a potential long-term piece to pair with Curry, not just for this season but for the future as well.
However, acquiring Bennedict Mathurin won’t come easy. The
Indiana Pacers are playing strong basketball this season and are expected to seek valuable players in return. One potential trade package for Mathurin could include Kevon Looney, a three-time NBA champion center, who could help shore up the Pacers' center depth, a position they’ve struggled with due to injuries. Looney's rebounding prowess would be a welcome addition to the Pacers' playoff hopes, making him an attractive trade piece.
Bennedict Mathurin is just 22 years old and his upside is undeniable, and his role with the
Golden State Warriors could resemble that of Jordan Poole during the team’s 2022 title run. Mathurin would provide a much-needed secondary scoring option, taking some of the pressure off Curry and helping the Warriors compete for another championship. His ability to create his own shot and score at will could prove crucial in tight playoff games.
