One of the greatest superstars to have ever set foot in a WWE ring, and now a bona fide Hollywood Megastar, John Cena is set to retire from wrestling at the end of 2025, as he announced at the Money in the Bank PLE, this year. He is set to initiate a ‘Retirement Tour’ at the end of this year probably, which will culminate with Cena hanging his boots on wrestling. He might challenge some of the biggest superstars and Championships from the company, during the tour. While he has not singled out which Championship he would like to go after, the two biggest names of WWE currently, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes should be the top contenders to face Cena in his retirement tour.
Here are 3 reasons why
1. John Cena versus ‘The American Nightmare’ would be blockbuster
In his first run with the WWE, Cody Rhodes was not as big a star as John Cena was and their rivalry would not have meant anything at that point of time. But in his second run, the “American Nightmare” has achieved big levels of Stardom and heights of success. Also, he is currently the Undisputed WWE champion. Being the biggest baby face of the company, he should definitely face WWE’s biggest babyface of the mid 2000’s till late 2010’s, John Cena. This would be a battle for the ages, Just like The Rock versus Cena happened in the early parts of 2010’s. Moreover, it would provide the chance for Cena to capture his record 17th World Championship in WWE.
2. John Cena vs the O.T.C. Roman Reigns will hit differently
The Rock versus John Cena Saga was magnificent and WWE tried to emulate that by putting the ‘Big Dog’ Roman Reigns against John Cena in 2017. While the match was good, both being baby faces didn't help the cause and it wasn't such a blockbuster event. Even when Cena came back at Money in the Bank, in 2021, he was just making a guest appearance in the overall schemes of WWE and was no match for the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman. Now that Reigns has turned baby face again, combined with his “Original Tribal Chief” persona, it would be highly captivating to see two stalwarts of the company go head to head against each other again.

3.Passing of the Torch

John Cena’s 20 greatest wins: WWE Top 10 special edition, June 26, 2022

As John Cena has not retired yet, we cannot conclude that Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns have completely taken over the baton of the biggest Face of the company from Cena. Cena is still a big ticket seller of the company and when he is against any name in WWE, he will be the bigger baby face. So to pass on the baton, it would be fitting to have Cena go toe to toe against Cody or Roman to pass that crown to be the one big face of the company. Also, retirements have to be Grand, especially when you are talking about the “Cenation Leader” and one of the most popular superstars around the globe, so who better to do it against the two current top guys of the organization.
