Ahmedabad sizzles at 44°C, sees 2.2 degree surge in 24 hours; Rajkot sees hottest day of April
Ahmedabad: The city felt the full force of summer on Monday as the temperature soared to 44°C. The jump of 2.2 degrees from 41.8°C on Sunday caught many residents off guard. It was 2.4 degrees higher than normal. Weather officials say the heat will stick around for a few more days before any relief sets in.
The minimum temperature in the city stood at 25.7°C, which was 0.4 degrees lower than usual. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amdavadis should prepare for more of the same, with Tuesday expected to bring similar heat. The IMD added that there will likely be no major change in maximum temperatures for the next five days. After that, the city may finally get some relief with a possible dip of 2-3 degrees.

While Amdavadis preferred to stay indoors during the afternoon hours, while those who had to venture outside reached for coconut water, nimbu paani, and buttermilk to stay hydrated. Emergency services (EMRI 108) said there had not been a major increase in heat-related emergencies yet, largely because temperatures remained moderate until last week.
However, doctors warned that quick transitions from air-conditioned environments to the hot outdoors — often a difference of 15 to 17 degrees — could cause sudden discomfort. A physician from the city advised, "Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day, cover your head when outdoors, and take regular breaks to help your body adjust to the heat."
