KANPUR: Three private buses stationed along GT road in Krishna nagar locality caught fire under mysterious conditions on Saturday night, causing distress amongst people passing by.
Following alerts, multiple fire engines and police forces reached the location, successfully dousing the flames after an hour-long operation. The incident led to significant traffic disruption.
Near Krishnanagar Gate, adjacent to the municipal corporation's facility, a group of private buses were stationed when one vehicle suddenly ignited on Saturday night.
The fire rapidly spread, consuming the initial bus and subsequently affecting two nearby parked buses. The towering flames created alarm among pedestrians. The blaze intensified, extending to a neighbouring plot, shed and even a tree.
Police officials arrived promptly, stopping traffic flow from PAC turn towards Ramadevi, redirecting vehicles to alternative routes, which resulted in traffic congestion.
Subsequently, six fire tenders arrived and controlled the situation through sustained efforts. Station in-charge Santosh Kumar Shukla confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the fire's origin.
"We are currently identifying the bus proprietors. The fire has been successfully contained with no reported injuries or fatalities," he said further.
